Manager's Update

Kate Duder
After a decade of planning and nine months of construction, our occupation date is fast approaching. The final vision to incorporate in the new centre involves reflecting the history of area and the old Papatoetoe Fire Station as well as the cultural diversity of South Auckland.
The Papatoetoe Community Ex-Fire Fighters Charitable Trust have played an integral role in the development of this project and reflecting the history of the building and their volunteers is important in recognising this. In addition to having the restored little flick fire engine on display in the cafe/hospitality area, we also plan to continue the tradition of recognising volunteers. Youthline would like to display details of the previous volunteer fire fighters along with our current and future dedicated and highly valued Youthline volunteers.
Our Manukau Youth Advisory Group (YAG) are producing a scope for reflecting South Auckland’s cultural diversity throughout the centre. This aligns with the reflection of diversity in our service provision and Youthline’s Strategic Elements relating to credible engagement, best practice and people. This diversity will represent the many cultures present in South Auckland including Maori, Pacific Island, Asian, Middle Eastern and NZ European. These cultures will be expressed through the art, decor and cultural practices within the centre.
