Manukau Centre Update

Our centre is definitely moving onwards and upwards and next month we will be able to show you photos of the building with a roof and wall structures filling the space. Excitement is building as the centre grows and our date for occupancy gets closer!
Last month we talked about our café and hospitality vision and this month I’d like to present our vision for ‘unlocking the digital divide’ for young people in Manukau.
Not only will the new centre be home to the Youthline Manukau helpline hub, providing essential support for young people via phone and text, but we also aim to give young people access to a ‘connected space’ and to the opportunity to develop a youth radio station.
The ‘connected space’ will give young people the opportunity to connect to the internet outside school, universities or work, helping them to study, learn and develop valuable IT skills for the future.
During the planning stage of this project, the young people we consulted with requested a space for a youth radio station and the development of this vision will add significantly to Youthline Manukau’s aims to support opportunities for young people to engage, develop skills and reach their potential in the South Auckland area.
Training and development is fundamentally linked to community development and provides pathways for young people to actively take part and contribute to their community.
Collaborating with the local community will be integral to the success of the centre and we are seeking to develop partnerships that will allow us to achieve our visions and in turn meet the development needs of the community
