Kia Ora, Welcome to Youthline Wellington!

At Youthline Wellington we offer a free, confidential and non-judgemental telephone counselling service (0800 376 633). Our aim is to have young people supporting young people.

We also have a free txt service (txt 234) with real live people at the other end of the txt! You can even txt us if you have no credit on your phone. Around the country Youthline also has an email support service; This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

We’re here 24/7, 365 days a year and are available to all young (and not so young) people. You can call or txt us about anything … family, relationships, self-harm, suicide, sex, sexuality, bullying, grief, friends, school, mental health, abuse, loneliness, alcohol, drugs and anything in between.

People call Youthline about ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING. It's OK to ask for help, that's one of the reasons Youthline exists.

No issue is too big or too small, sorting out the small stuff can stop it turning into something big. Talking about what’s happening for you, sharing ideas and discussing options can help make things clearer.

You probably have a whole lot of people in your life telling you what to do and giving you advice. At Youthline Wellington, we like to listen and help you to talk about what’s going on.

We think it’s important for you to find your own solutions and answers. After all, you’re the expert of your own life!

Youthline Wellington is a charitable organisation, we are run by volunteers. We are not associated with any religious or political organisation so you can talk to us without any judgement or agendas getting in the way.

If this sounds like an organisation you’d like to be involved in – perhaps you’d like to become a volunteer. Have a look at the link ‘Do you want to become part of Youthline Wellington?’

Do you want to become part of Youthline Wellington?

At Youthline Wellington we believe our strength is in our amazing group of volunteers.

Our selection and training offers potential volunteers an amazing opportunity for growth and self development. It also gives them an introduction to core counselling and communication techniques.

Joining Youthline Wellington is a chance to be part of an amazing group of people volunteering their time to support young people throughout the Wellington region and New Zealand.

The road to becoming a Youthline counsellor starts with a comprehensive selection process. This involves learning about yourself and others, and developing communication and counselling skills.  We offer a safe environment in which you can explore new things and learn new skills.

While anyone can apply to become a Youthline volunteer counsellor, the key things we look for include good communication and listening skills, self-awareness, coping skills and commitment to the organisation.

Those selected to become Youthline volunteers receive 40 hours of training on a range of subjects related to young people. This training is facilitated by experienced Youthliners with the help of outside experts from the community.

At Youthline Wellington, one of our most important philosophies is to ensure that all our volunteers are supported in their roles.  This is done through on-going supervision and training.
