Youthline’s 40th birthday
Here at Youthline, one of our favourite things to do is CELEBRATE!
Whilst I might be inclined to be feeling rather old on the cusp of Youthline’s 40th anniversary celebrations, fortunately I am surrounded by inspiring young leaders who I know will carry on the 40 year traditions for at least another 40 years!
Youthline’s history from its inception in the 70’s era of flower power and free loving to it’s current place as a leader in youth development with numerous partners and projects in the wider community - is a proud one.
We wish to celebrate with all New Zealanders and especially those volunteers and supporters who have made this journey possible. Today young New Zealanders are able to connect with Youthline and to each other via: phone, email, txt, online forums, Facebook, Twitter and (luckily for the technologically challenged like myself!) come together the old fashioned way at one of our 6 (and soon to be 8) Youthline centres across the country.
It is n amazing thing that in a time of economic recession Youthline is planning expansion! It is the people and our community values that have made this possible! The eve of our anniversary it is a wonderful time to reflect on some of these values.
First and foremost Youthline is a youth-centred organisation. We believe young people develop most successfully when they are fostered from a strengths based perspective and have the opportunity to be connected, have quality relationships, participate, and have access to good information.
Youthline is for all young New Zealanders, celebrates diversity and strives to remain relevant and reflective in this fast changing technological world. Holding on to these values and finding ways to put them into practice both within Youthline, work with other organisations and the wider community, is at the heart of what we do.
In recognition of Youthline’s 40th birthday we are planning numerous events and working with Youthlines across the country.
We hope to have social, sporting, musical and other events to tantalize a range of tastes; you might even be inclined to assist in the planning or running of one of these events!
If so Amanda our events coordinator would love to hear from you
